WELCOME TO THE AI ETHICS LAB
Our mission is to foster an instructor-led, undergraduate-centered research lab where students cultivate the capacity for independent philosophical inquiry that enriches both philosophical dialogue and their own major fields of study.
Supported by funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the Ethics–AI–HPC: Multidisciplinary Research and Education initiative and by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the UC Davis Center for Artificial Intelligence and Experimental Futures, the lab brings together undergraduate students from all majors to engage in sustained discussion and research on artificial intelligence, ethics, and what it means to live good lives in a technological world.
We treat philosophy as an active, collaborative practice. Through close mentorship and interdisciplinary dialogue, students learn to formulate original questions, develop rigorous arguments, and apply philosophical thinking to ethical and well-being concerns that are highly consequential yet frequently overlooked in AI research and practice.
By connecting philosophical reflection with students’ diverse academic backgrounds, we aim to cultivate thoughtful researchers who can carry ethical insight into technical, scientific, social, and creative domains.
